What is Oscars?
Academy Awards, all the more known as “Oscars”, is an American film grant to perceive work in film. Oscar, the Academy Award of Merit, awards the statue to the winner. This award also recognizes international excellence in cinematic achievements as voted by the Academy members.

Why Is the Academy Award Famous for Oscars?
Oscars’ history began with a conversation at Louis B. Mayer’s home. He and his guests wanted to start an organization that could advance the film business. Within a week, 36 invitations to meet at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles were sent to every branch of the movie industry.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), also known as The Academy, was established from the results of this meeting. Douglas Fairbanks is elected first President of The Academy.
Meeting members also agreed that a committee of seven would be formed to create award categories. At first, seven award categories were created. The Academy was founded shortly after a meeting with several other organizations to discuss many matters, including how the Academy will support filmmakers who achieve the highest level of achievement in the film business.
They agreed to award this prize. Cedric Gibbons, MGM’s Art Director, designed a statue showing a knight holding a knife while standing on a reel of film.
The Academy hired George Stanley, an artist, to turn the design into three-dimensional form. The bronze statue with 24 carats gold-covered, 13.5 inch tall, and weighing 3.8kgs has been distributed for the first time in 1929.
Oscars.org states that the Academy Award of Merit was the original name of the award. The Academy Award became the later name for the award, and AMPAS was later shortened to The Academy.
The story that Margaret Herrick was the executive director of The Academy, and also a librarian, saw the trophy for the first time in 1931 is a popular one. She claimed that the statue’s shape resembled Oscar’s uncle Oscar. The Academy then called him “Oscar”.
Oscar’s name was soon easy to pronounce. Walt Disney refers to his Oscar as his trophy in his 1934 winning speech on ‘The Three Little Pigs. The Academy referred to the Oscar award in 1939.
